Area Health & Safety (HSE) Lead

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Area Health & Safety (HSE) Lead to join a major infrastructure project at Hinkley Point C. Reporting to the Senior Safety Manager, you will provide leadership across a designated construction area, ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained while supporting project delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HSE professional with a strong construction background who enjoys leading teams, influencing safe behaviours, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead Health & Safety performance across a designated project area.

* Manage and mentor a team of HSE Advisors, ensuring high standards of performance and professional development.

* Provide competent HSE advice and support to construction and project teams.

* Develop, implement and manage audit and assurance programmes.

* Monitor health and safety performance through leading and lagging indicators, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions.

* Lead incident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are captured and communicated.

* Support client, principal contractor, delivery partner and regulatory audits and inspections.

* Ensure compliance with company policies, UK Health & Safety legislation and project-specific requirements.

* Produce and review monthly HSE performance dashboards, KPIs and reports.

* Attend client, coordination and internal HSE meetings.

* Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership and engagement across all levels of the workforce.

* Support continuous improvement initiatives and champion best practice throughout the project.

What We're Looking For

Essential

* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).

* Chartered IOSH Member or actively working towards Chartered status.

* Minimum of 8 years' Health & Safety experience within construction.

* Previous experience managing HSE teams.

* Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation.

* Experienced in conducting audits and investigations.

* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

* Ability to analyse HSE data and implement effective improvement strategies.

Desirable

* Experience within major infrastructure, nuclear or highly regulated environments.

* Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Scaffolding or Coatings activities.

* Experience working with regulators and hosting site inspections.

* Understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.

* Teaching or training qualification (Level 3 Award in Education & Training or equivalent)
