Assistant Accountant
We are seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to support the financial management of multiple group companies. This role offers excellent exposure to a dynamic business environment spanning both the renewable energy and recruitment sectors.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director and senior management team, the Assistant Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end reporting, and assisting with the day-to-day finance operations across the group.
This is an ideal opportunity for an AAT-qualified or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA candidate looking to develop within a growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting
* Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records across multiple group entities.
* Assist with month-end and year-end processes.
* Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
* Prepare and post journals, accruals, and prepayments.
* Support preparation of management accounts and board reporting packs.
* Assist with statutory accounts and external audit requirements.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
* Process supplier invoices and payment runs.
* Manage customer invoicing and credit control activities.
* Resolve supplier and customer account queries.
* Monitor aged debtors and support cash collection activities.
Payroll & Compliance
* Assist with payroll preparation and submissions.
* Support VAT returns and HMRC reporting requirements.
* Ensure compliance with financial controls and company procedures.
Commercial & Operational Support
* Produce financial analysis and performance reports.
* Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
* Support project costing and profitability analysis for the solar division.
* Support commission calculations and contractor payment reconciliations within the recruitment division.
* Work closely with operational teams to improve financial processes and reporting.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role.
* Strong Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities across different businesses.
Desirable
Experience using QuickBooks, or similar accounting software.
Experience in recruitment, construction, energy, or project-based businesses.
Understanding of VAT and CIS regulations.
Experience working within a group structure or multi-company environment.
