Assistant Design manager
Project Overview We are recruiting for an Assistant Design Manager to join a major £85m refurbishment project in Central London. The scheme involves the transformation of a listed building into high-quality office and museum space. The role will support the project through the culmination of RIBA Stage 3 and into the early stages of RIBA Stage 4, making it a key position in the transition from developed design into technical delivery. Key Responsibilities * Support the Design Manager in coordinating design information across all disciplines * Assist in managing the transition from RIBA Stage 3 to Stage 4 (Technical Design) * Review and track design deliverables to ensure alignment with programme and project requirements * Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and MEP consultants * Assist with managing subcontractor design packages * Monitor design changes and ensure compliance with planning and heritage constraints * Support in resolving design queries (RFIs) and technical issues * Attend design team meetings and produce reports where required * Ensure all design information is issued, controlled, and up to date Requirements * Previous experience as an Assistant Design Manager or Design Coordinator * Strong understanding of RIBA Stages 3 & 4 * Experience working on refurbishment and/or listed building projects * Exposure to commercial, cultural, or mixed-use schemes * Good knowledge of construction processes and technical detailing * Strong communication and organisational skills * Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Key Details * Freelance role – 5 months duration * Immediate or short notice preferred * Opportunity to work on a high-profile Central London heritage scheme
