Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) | Manchester | £28,000–£36,000 + package | Permanent | Mon–Fri 8:30–5 We’re recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) for a growing cost management team supporting a busy, UK-wide programme of works. This is a great opportunity to build broad PQS/consultancy experience, take ownership of your own projects, and develop your commercial skillset in a fast-paced, client-led environment. You’ll join a multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering cost management, project management, health & safety and design services across complex programmes. The role suits someone who’s detail-driven, confident communicating with stakeholders, and keen to progress (APC support can be available). The role As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS), you’ll support the full cost management lifecycle — from early cost planning through procurement support, change control, valuations and final account activity — while maintaining accurate reporting and strong audit trails. Key responsibilities * Assist with cost plans, estimates, benchmarking and feasibility budgets * Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts and cost-to-complete updates * Support programme governance: risk/opportunity tracking, clear reporting, strong attention to detail * Assist tender processes: documentation, analysis, levelling and recommendations * Support payment processes/valuations and general commercial administration * Help manage change control: variation assessments, logs, substantiation and approvals * Attend and contribute to client meetings, presenting updates clearly and professionally * Work flexibly within client processes/structures, adopting templates and ways of working What we’re looking for * Some experience in a cost management / QS environment (consultancy/PQS ideal) * Strong Excel and reporting capability * Confident written and verbal communication (client-facing) * High accuracy, good organisation, able to juggle multiple deadlines * Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop Working pattern / travel * Manchester base with hybrid working supported (role-dependent) * Occasional UK/ROI travel for meetings/site visits (typically a few visits per month, as required) How to apply If you’re an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) in Manchester looking for a step-up with real project ownership and progression, apply via CV-Library today
