Our client is a progressive main contractor who provides a full range of design & build construction services throughout London. With a turnover in excess of £110 million, the company specialises in a range of projects including Commercial, Residential, Hospitality, and Mixed-use sectors. They consistently deliver efficient solutions throughout the entire construction process, from pre-construction to handover and post-occupancy. Project Examples: * Residential – Reconstruction of 15 residential units and the addition of 5+ units * Mixed Use – Eight-storey building consisting of residential apartments with retail and commercial space * Commercial – Five-storey high-specification new-build office development Assistant Quantity Surveyor Our client is currently seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Central London. This is an office-based role (five days per week), with site visits as required. The successful candidate will support the commercial team in managing the day-to-day financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring processes are carried out efficiently and in line with company procedures. Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Assist in the commercial management of construction projects, supporting the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and valuations * Support contract administration duties, including working with JCT/NEC/bespoke contracts and ensuring compliance * Aid in providing commercial support to project teams, contributing to cost control and value engineering initiatives * Assist with procurement processes, including preparing enquiries, analysing tenders, and managing subcontractor packages * Help monitor project financial performance, including tracking variations, change orders, and cost reporting * Support the preparation of interim valuations, final accounts, and monthly reports * Work closely with senior commercial staff, project managers, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered within budget and on programme * Maintain accurate records and documentation to support commercial activities Requirements * Degree qualified or working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline * Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role (placement year, internship, or 1–3 years’ experience preferred) within a main contractor or subcontractor environment * Basic understanding of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC * Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail * Good commercial awareness and an eagerness to develop knowledge of cost management and procurement processes * Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team * Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines * Willingness to learn and progress within a commercial role in the construction industry
