BR Principal Designer - RBI 2D+ - Opportunity to keep registration 100% Remote | 1 day per month in London for team catch-up Up to £90,000 The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced BR Principal Designer from a Building Control Surveyor/Registered Building Inspector background to join a growing CDM and BR specialist consultancy. This role is designed specifically for professionals who have a strong Building Control background and an interest in design coordination and compliance. Maintain registration - A common concern for RBIs considering a move into Principal Designer roles under the Building Safety Act is the potential impact on maintaining RBI registration. This structure removes that barrier. Unlike many organisations, they have a dedicated in-house Building Control team, meaning you will be able to work across both functions and maintain your RBI registration, while expanding your experience into the BR Principal Designer role. The Role As a BR Principal Designer, you will play a key role in ensuring Building Regulations compliance is embedded throughout the design process in line with the Building Safety Act framework. Working alongside architects, engineers, and their internal Building Control team, you will * Act as Building Regulations Principal Designer during the design phase * Review and coordinate design information for Building Regulations compliance * Support teams through the Gateway process where applicable * Advise designers and consultants on regulatory compliance and buildability * Collaborate with our internal Building Control specialists to maintain regulatory standards * Provide technical input across a range of residential and mixed-use developments * Help develop and refine compliance and design review procedures About You We are looking for someone with * Registered Building Inspector (RBI) status – ideally 2D or above * Detailed knowledge of UK Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act framework * Experience reviewing design-stage information and technical documentation * Interest in design coordination and regulatory leadership * Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with designers and consultants Previous experience as a BR Principal Designer is welcome but not essential. They are happy to support experienced Building Control professionals transitioning into the role.
