BSL Level 6 Teaching Assistant

Contract: Full-Time (Term-Time Only)
A specialist SEN setting in SM3 is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant with BSL Level 6 to support pupils with hearing impairments and additional needs. This is a full-time role with an immediate start, ideal for someone confident in delivering high-level communication support within an educational setting.
The Role
• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with hearing impairments
• Use British Sign Language (BSL Level 6) to facilitate communication and learning
• Support access to the curriculum through adapted resources and strategies
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and specialist services (e.g. HI teams)
• Promote inclusion, independence, and confidence in communication
• Support social interaction and emotional development
• Contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
Requirements
• BSL Level 6 qualification (essential)
• Previous experience working with deaf or hearing-impaired pupils
• Strong understanding of communication needs and inclusive practice
• Confident working 1:1 and within classroom settings
• Must hold a Child DBS on the Update Service (Adult DBS desirable)
• Full-time availability (Monday–Friday)
Desirable
• Experience in specialist SEN schools or resource bases
• Knowledge of additional needs (e.g. ASD, SLCN)
• Experience supporting with assistive listening devices (e.g. radio aids)
