What the role actually looks like

CAMHS outpatient and community services

Tier 3 ADHD assessment clinics

Neurodevelopmental services

Early intervention and specialist ADHD pathways

Inpatient units where ADHD assessment is part of the broader care pathway

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Conducting comprehensive ADHD assessments for children and young people using recognised rating scales and clinical interview frameworks

Gathering multi-informant information from parents, carers, schools, and other professionals

Interpreting assessment data and contributing to diagnostic formulations within the MDT

Liaising with psychiatrists and clinical leads around diagnostic decisions and prescribing pathways

Providing detailed written assessment reports to agreed standards and timescales

Delivering psychoeducation to young people and their families following assessment

Supporting post-diagnostic care pathways including medication monitoring and review

Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation

Contributing to MDT meetings, clinical supervision, and service development

What we need from you

Essential:

Active NMC registration (Mental Health or Children's nursing)

Demonstrable experience conducting ADHD assessments in a CAMHS or neurodevelopmental setting

Competency in using recognised ADHD assessment tools (e.g. Conners, SNAP-IV, DIVA, MHS tools)

Strong report writing skills and ability to present complex clinical information clearly

Working knowledge of NICE guidelines on ADHD in children and young people

Desirable (but not always required):

Experience across both ADHD and co-occurring neurodevelopmental presentations (e.g. ASD, DCD, anxiety)

Training or competency in cognitive assessment tools

Experience providing post-diagnostic support, psychoeducation groups, or medication management clinics

Supervisory or mentorship experience within a CAMHS setting
