Chartered Ecologist – Private Planning Consultancy – Multiple locations across the UK

Fraser Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a well-established planning group seeking a Chartered Ecologist to strengthen ecological capability across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Ecologist to provide expert ecological advice and technical input into planning processes, including;

✔️ Biodiversity new gain
✔️ Mitigation stratergies
✔️ You will also play a key role of developing the Group's ecological capability

The Role
As Chartered Ecologist, you will lead and contribute to a variety of ecological assessments and support planning teams by providing high-quality, evidence-based advice. You will work independently while collaborating with colleagues across the Group to ensure successful outcomes for clients and projects.

Key Responsibilities
✅ Lead ecological assessments, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), protected species surveys, and habitat assessments
✅ Prepare clear ecological reports and inputs for planning applications, including BNG metrics and mitigation strategies
✅ Provide expert ecological advice to project teams and clients at all stages of planning and design
✅ Support planners on ecology-related risks, survey requirements, and planning constraints
✅ Contribute to the development of ecological mitigation strategies (including RAMs and DLL approaches)
✅ Engage with Local Planning Authorities, consultees, and third-party ecologists to resolve ecological matters efficiently
✅ Share knowledge and best practice across the Group, maintaining high-quality, auditable ecological records

About You
✔️ Chartered Ecologist (CIEEM) with relevant BSc/MSc qualification in Ecology, Environmental Management, or Conservation
✔️ Experience supporting planning consultancies and contributing to planning applications
✔️ Proven ability to produce high-quality ecological assessments and reports
✔️ Familiarity with BNG requirements, RAMs/DLL methodologies, and protected species licensing processes
✔️ Strong understanding of how ecological issues influence land use planning
✔️ Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a private consultancy environment
