Our client is a decorative and exterior paint manufacturer in Ireland, and are looking for a Chemist to join their team in the Research and Development laboratory to fully support the manufacturing department in product testing, process monitoring, formulation, and problem investigation.
Responsibilities:
* Formulate and test new coatings.
* Have a thorough grasp of relevant coating testing techniques and standards.
* Investigate and work to optimise existing paint formulations for cost and quality.
* Communicate with raw material suppliers and fully understand the impact of raw material costs on profitability.
* Store and maintain records of work undertaken.
* Remain up to date with technological advancements, particularly those which can speed up processes, improve reliability or impact products from a regulatory or quality standpoint.
* Maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with established specifications and assure that records of external calibration are updated accordingly.
* Adherence to all quality standards.
* Ad-hoc duties as requested in line with experience and competence.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Graduate level qualification in any of the following: Science, Chemistry, Colour Chemistry, Materials Science/Technology, or other related qualification.
* Relevant experience in a coatings’ laboratory is preferred.
* Knowledge of paint/coatings/ink formulation preferable.
* Good colour vision.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, to work effectively with colleagues and to explain complex techniques to production and other labs.
* Experience in providing presentations, writing technical reports, and demonstrating coating techniques.
A salary up to €40,500 dependent on experience.
