EHS Support Specialist
This is a 12–18 month contract suited to someone who can step in quickly, work confidently in an industrial environment, and support safe operations during a period of change. COMAH experience is preferable but not essential; the ability to apply solid EHS fundamentals in a chemical setting is more important.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational EHS Presence
* Provide visible EHS support across the site through walkdowns, engagement with teams, and follow up of concerns.
* Support safe handling and management of hazardous chemicals, including SDS reviews, COSHH coordination, and chemical safety guidance.
* Assist with waste and wastewater oversight, including contractor coordination and compliance checks.
* Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills, competency checks, and documentation.
Compliance, Inspections and Reporting
* Assist with preparation for EA, HSE, corporate and customer audits, including evidence gathering and action tracking.
* Support environmental compliance tasks such as recordkeeping, sampling coordination, and routine reporting.
* Help maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems through inspections, audits, and document updates.
* Support incident reporting, investigation follow-up, and closure of corrective actions.
Projects, Change and Closure Activities
* Provide EHS input into small projects, modifications and closure-related activities.
* Assist with permit variations, notifications and regulatory communications as required.
* Support the Management of Change (MOC) process, ensuring actions are completed and risks assessed.
Contractor and Permit to Work Support
* Coordinate contractor access, RAMS review, inductions and on site supervision where required.
* Support the permit to work process and ensure safe execution of tasks.
Documentation and Administration
* Update procedures, risk assessments, training records and compliance documentation.
* Support preparation of EHS metrics, dashboards and reports for site leadership.
Required Experience and Qualifications
* Experience in an industrial EHS role (chemical, manufacturing, engineering, utilities or similar).
* Exposure to hazardous chemicals or chemical processes.
* Solid understanding of UK EHS legislation and its practical application.
* Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment and contractor management.
* Comfortable working in a plant environment and engaging with operators, engineers and contractors.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Background: Chemical Degree
Preferred (Not Essential)
* Experience in a chemical manufacturing or COMAH-influenced environment.
* COMAH experience preferable but not essential.
* Exposure to ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 systems.
* NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
