Employment Lawyer
Working closely with HR, senior management and internal departments, you will provide practical and commercially focused legal support across both contentious and non-contentious employment issues.
The Role
The successful candidate will undertake a varied workload which may include:
* Advising on disciplinary, grievance, capability and sickness absence matters
* Supporting HR teams on complex employee relations issues
* Managing Employment Tribunal claims from initial instruction through to hearing
* Drafting and reviewing employment-related documentation, policies and settlement agreements
* Advising on redundancy, restructuring and TUPE matters
* Providing legal support on equality, discrimination and whistleblowing issues
* Delivering pragmatic and risk-based legal advice to officers and senior stakeholders
* Instructing and liaising with external counsel where appropriate
* Keeping up to date with developments in employment legislation and case law
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with demonstrable employment law experience.
You should possess:
* Strong knowledge of employment law and tribunal procedure
* Experience handling a broad range of contentious and advisory employment matters
* Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills
* The ability to manage competing priorities effectively
* Confidence advising stakeholders at all levels of seniority
* A proactive and solution-focused approach to legal support
Previous Local Authority or public sector experience would be beneficial but is not essential for candidates with strong relevant expertise.
