Job Advert: Specialist Tutor (Communication & Interaction) - 17-year-old Learner Location: PO14 Duration: 13 weeks Hours: 6 hours per week Start: ASAP Provision: 1:1 Tuition (Communication & Interaction) About the Role We are seeking a patient, engaging, and creative Specialist Tutor to provide 1:1 tuition for a 17-year-old learner with a range of medical and communication needs. Due to frequent appointments and periods of illness, he experiences significant absences from school and requires consistent, flexible support delivered at home or an agreed community setting. You will be responsible for planning and delivering meaningful, accessible learning sessions that build confidence, develop core skills, and connect with his interests. Learner Profile (from EHCP) The learner: Has medical needs leading to intermittent attendance in mainstream education. Shows strong visual learning skills, excellent visual memory, and strong attention to detail. Has a keen interest in Space, and enjoys exploring and expanding his knowledge in this area. Engages well with construction-based activities, including Lego building and Minecraft. Is an active, hands-on learner who responds best to practical, interactive tasks linked to his interests. Key Responsibilities Deliver tailored 1:1 tuition focused on Communication & Interaction needs. Create engaging, visually supported learning activities aligned with the learner's strengths and interests (e.g., Space, construction tasks, Minecraft-themed learning). Adapt lessons to ensure accessibility during periods of ill health or changing availability. Build a supportive, positive learning environment that promotes confidence and independence. Provide brief progress notes and maintain clear communication with the commissioning team. Requirements Experience supporting learners with Communication & Interaction needs. At least 6 months experience working in UK schools in the last 5 years Understanding of visual learning strategies and hands-on, practical teaching approaches. Ability to personalise learning to a young person's interests. Reliable, flexible, and able to build rapport with neurodiverse learners. Teaching/tutoring experience is essential; relevant qualifications desirable. What We Offer Competitive hourly rate. Consistent weekly timetable over 13 weeks.
