About the Role
We are seeking a Flight Test Director to lead the development and execution of flight test programs for a next-generation aircraft. This role involves planning, coordinating, and overseeing test flights and ensuring the successful completion of flight test objectives. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and a safety-first mindset.
The Flight Test Director will report to the Head of Flight Test and will play a critical role in the definition, execution, and post-flight analysis of test programs for innovative, remotely-piloted aircraft designed for maximum efficiency and operational flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
* Define comprehensive flight test plans in collaboration with engineering and operations leadership.
* Develop and agree upon test points and Flight Test Cards.
* Support Flight Readiness Reviews (FRR) and Safety Review Boards (SRB).
* Manage flight test activities across multiple test sites.
* Produce post-test reports, documenting results, lessons learned, and recommendations.
* Lead first flight reviews and coordinate all aspects of inaugural operations.
* Participate in program design reviews, schedule meetings, and liaise with test site management.
* Conduct and oversee flight test briefings, ensuring team preparedness and compliance with safety protocols.
* Review, update, and communicate Risk Hazard Analyses.
* Monitor and evaluate performance parameters of experimental and operational systems during flight.
* Mentor and guide engineers and team members, promoting professional growth and adherence to best practices.
* Adapt to evolving responsibilities and dynamic operational requirements.
* Travel frequently to flight test sites and other locations in the region as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Prior experience as a Flight Test Director or equivalent leadership in flight test programs.
* Minimum of 3 years in flight test leadership roles and 5 years supporting flight test activities.
* Proven ability to lead small, high-performing teams successfully.
* Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Science, Engineering, or equivalent).
* Experience as aircrew (Pilot, EWO, NAV, etc.) or mentoring engineers is a plus.
* Private Pilot License or higher is advantageous but not required.
* Strong professionalism, maturity, and the ability to operate independently or in a team.
* Willingness to accept changing roles and responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
