Highways Materials Technician
Key Responsibilities:
As part of this role, you should expect to carry out work within the following areas:
Overseeing site and in-house testing, checking results, producing reports and providing technical information to clients and colleagues
Managing, organising, and carry out technical testing to ensure tests schedules and workloads are met
Overseeing sampling and testing procedures in line with contract requirements and liaise with external testing laboratories where needed
Ensuring we meet UKAS requirements, by ensuring all our activities comply with British Standards, our in-house procedures and UKAS requirements, conduct audits to maintain staff compliance and provide staff training
Managing test procedures, ensuring they are documented, understood and communicated clearly
Job Requirements:
A strong understanding of civil engineering materials, materials testing and site construction operations, particularly within the highways sector
Good communications skills to work effectively with clients and build a good relationship between them and the laboratory
Working knowledge of BS EN 17025, relevant British Standards for materials testing and UKAS requirements
Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
Awareness of on-site Health and Safety policies and procedures
Good IT skills, including use of specialist software
Working Conditions:
Display screen equipment user/laptop will be supplied
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
You will be required to drive a Council vehicle and must hold a current full drivers' licence
