We are a therapeutic, inclusive school supporting children aged 5–16 with complex learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and a wide range of associated difficulties.
We are looking for an experienced and skilled HLTA to support the delivery of personalised education and therapeutic interventions across the school. You will lead and deliver small group or 1:1 sessions, support curriculum access, and contribute to assessment, planning, and professional development across the team.
Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality learning support and interventions under the direction of teaching staff and senior leaders. HLTA responsibilities may include planning and delivering specified learning activities, assessing progress, supporting curriculum development, and mentoring other staff.
Key Responsibilities Teaching and Intervention
* Plan and deliver tailored 1:1 or small-group sessions to support academic, therapeutic, or life-skills learning
* Use a range of communication and engagement strategies (PECS, Makaton, visuals, social stories)
* Implement sensory and emotional regulation techniques including Zones of Regulation
* Support subject-specific content and cross-curricular learning in line with EHCP outcomes
Curriculum and Planning Support
* Support class teachers in planning differentiated learning and therapeutic activities
* Monitor, assess, and record progress toward EHCP and curriculum targets
* Contribute to learning journals, pupil progress meetings, and moderation activities
* Help adapt classroom resources and approaches to meet individual needs Leadership and Mentoring
* Mentor and guide Teaching Assistants and newer support staff
* Lead on aspects of daily class organisation in the absence of the teacher, where appropriate
* Promote consistency and best practice across the wider support team
* Participate in curriculum working groups or pilot projects as required Safeguarding and Professional Conduct
* Follow OS’ safeguarding procedures and support pupil wellbeing throughout the day
* Uphold The Oaklands Way and role-model positive communication and behaviour
* Engage in school CPD and contribute to reflective team practice
* Work in partnership with families and external professionals to ensure holistic support
