Duty Manager
Marylebone, London | Full-time | Temporary (3–4 weeks)

If you are used to hiding behind a big team or passing issues up the chain, this will feel very different. This is a small, 24-bedroom hotel where the person on shift is the person in control. You will be the point of contact for guests, the front office and anything that needs resolving in the moment. It is a straightforward operation on paper, but it relies heavily on someone who is organised, calm under pressure and able to keep standards high without needing layers of support.

The pace is steady rather than chaotic. With around 5 check-ins and 7 check-outs per day, this is not about volume, it is about consistency. Guest experience, presentation and handling problems properly matter far more than just getting people through the door. You will report directly into the Front Office Manager and work across early and late shifts, taking full ownership of the hotel during your hours.

What the role involves

Managing the day-to-day running of the front desk across your shift, ensuring a smooth handover between early and late teams

Handling guest arrivals and departures, maintaining a professional and welcoming environment at all times

Acting as the main point of escalation for guest issues, resolving problems quickly and properly

Supporting the overall operation of the hotel, stepping in where needed to keep standards consistent

Maintaining presentation, organisation and attention to detail across the property

What they are looking for

Previous experience in a hotel front office or duty management role

Someone comfortable working independently without a team underneath them

Strong communication skills and a calm, controlled approach to problem solving

A professional presence that fits a smaller, high-standard hotel environment

Shifts and structure

8 hour shifts, 5 days per week

Early shift: 7:00am – 3:00pm
Late shift: 3:00pm – 11:00pm

Pay (Umbrella PAYE)

This will sit broadly in the region of £16.00 to £20.00 per hour via umbrella PAYE, depending on experience

That typically equates to roughly £600 to £720 per week based on a 40 hour week

You are paid through an umbrella company, so the rate includes holiday pay accrual and statutory costs rather than being a direct PAYE salary

If you are used to larger hotels, this is a reset. Smaller team, more ownership, no hiding place. If you like being in control of your shift and actually influencing the guest experience day to day, this is where it works.

If you want something immediate where you can step in and take charge from day one, get in touch
