Interim Director of Education & Inclusion

Interim contract – immediate start
Inside IR35 (via umbrella)
On‑site 2-3 days per week

You will be stepping into a pivotal leadership role at a moment of real urgency and impact. This is a high‑profile interim assignment providing senior leadership continuity at a critical transition point, reporting into the DCS and working closely with elected members, headteachers and senior officers. You will be stabilising services, maintaining momentum and providing confidence across education, inclusion and SEND while longer‑term structures are agreed. With a significant SEND reform deadline approaching, your leadership will matter from day one.

Your Role as Interim Director of Education & Inclusion

Strategic leadership across education, inclusion and SEND, ensuring continuity and grip during a senior transition
SEND system oversight, driving progress against reform requirements and imminent statutory reporting deadlines
Stakeholder engagement, building trusted relationships with headteachers, senior leaders and partners
Operational assurance, maintaining performance, pace and morale across established teams
Visible leadership, with a strong on‑site presence and hands‑on approach to senior decision‑making
Your previous experience as an Interim Director of Education & Inclusion

Director‑level leadership experience within education and children’s services
Deep Education expertise with a track record of operating in pressured systems
Early Help and social care reform knowledge, including Families First
Credibility with schools, ideally underpinned by previous headteacher experience
Proven stakeholder management in complex, politically sensitive environments

The assignment is required within weeks, with flexibility on rate for the right individual.
