Learning Support Assistant – Full Time | Year 11 Support | Immediate Start Education Personnel – East Midlands Education Personnel, a leading specialist in education recruitment across the East Midlands, is seeking a dedicated, emotionally intelligent and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to work full time supporting a Year 11 student in a welcoming and highly supportive secondary school in Derby. This role is to start as soon as possible and will continue until the end of the academic year. The school is known for its strong pastoral support, collaborative staff culture and commitment to nurturing both students and staff. 🌱 About the Role You will work on a 1:1 basis supporting a Year 11 student who thrives with the right relational approach. The role is focused on building trust, emotional safety and consistency, enabling her to access learning and feel confident in school. We are looking for someone who: * Is calm, patient and consistent, and does not become frustrated when challenges arise * Is genuine, predictable and respectful of difference * Communicates clearly and is able to explain or repeat information in different ways * Is emotionally regulated and able to model calm behaviour * Understands that withdrawal or shutdown is not personal or rejection * Is proactive and reflective rather than reactive * Can build rapport through natural conversation, but is equally comfortable with quiet moments * Is warm, friendly, gentle and caring in their approach * Understands the importance of a low-demand, low-pressure relationship to reduce anxiety * Can advocate for the student and support her in understanding different perspectives * Makes her feel safe, accepted and unhurried, especially around communication * Shows understanding of anxiety and demand avoidance, recognising this as a need rather than refusal * Accepts and values the student for who she is * Is confident, socially aware and able to build a positive relationship that feels natural and respectful This young person needs a supportive adult who builds trust first and places emotional safety at the centre of all interactions. ⭐ Why Work in This School?
