Job title: Manufacturing Manager

Location: Basingstoke

Hours: Mon-Fri, 08:30-17:00

Salary: £40,000-£45,000 per annum

On behalf of our client we are recruiting a hands‑on Manufacturing Manager to lead a high-performing production team. This is a decision‑focused role: you will set staffing levels, deliver departmental KPIs, own IMS elements and SOPs, and drive continuous improvement to hit Quality, On‑Time Delivery and Efficiency targets.

Key responsibilities

Resource planning & attendance: set and maintain optimal staffing to meet lead times and production demand; manage sickness, absence and holiday planning to ensure continuity.
Team leadership & development: lead, train and appraise staff; coach for performance and accountability.
Health & Safety: ensure full compliance in production, lead incident investigations and corrective action.
IMS & documentation ownership: review, update and maintain SOPs and Safe Systems of Work.
Quality & KPI ownership: monitor inspection failures and core KPIs (H&S, Quality, OTD, Efficiency & Utilisation, Attendance, Lead Times); take decisive corrective actions when targets slip.
Performance management: diagnose root causes, implement corrective and preventive actions; raise Material Non‑Conformances where required.
Process optimisation: define and implement strategies to increase productivity, reduce costs and improve utilisation; use MES to monitor and act on operational performance.
Cross‑functional coordination: work with Kitting, Inspection, Logistics and Engineering to ensure seamless flow and timely delivery.
Cost & compliance: support production budget management, resource allocation and cost‑saving initiatives.

Who we're looking for

Proven supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (team leadership, performance management).
Practical experience owning quality, H&S and documentation (SOPs/SSoW/IMS).
Data‑driven: experience using MES or similar systems to monitor Efficiency/Utilisation and act on metrics.
Strong problem solver: root‑cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions (RCA, CAPA, or similar).
Comfortable leading cross‑functional change and working with engineering to introduce process/technology improvements.
