About the Role

My highly established, forward thinking client are looking for a talented and motivated Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Rochdale. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the design and development of innovative machinery and components, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to manufacture and customer delivery.

You will be responsible for producing high-quality designs, detailed manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation, while working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and reliable product solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

* Design and develop new machines, assemblies, and components

* Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (SolidWorks & PDM)

* Create manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)

* Generate purchased equipment specifications for ancillary components

* Perform design calculations and validation for new and modified designs

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

* Identify and implement product and process improvements

* Support cost reduction and value engineering initiatives

* Ensure “right first-time” designs to minimise waste and defects

Cross-Functional Collaboration

* Work closely with Sales, Purchasing, Production, Quality, and Service teams

* Provide technical support across departments and to group companies

* Assist in resolving customer issues through root cause analysis (RCA)

* Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and factory acceptance tests (FAT)

Documentation & Compliance

* Maintain accurate design documentation in line with company procedures

* Manage engineering changes through DCR and ECN processes

* Prepare technical manuals for customer equipment

* Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations

What We’re Looking For

Core Skills & Experience

* Minimum of 3+ mechanical design and product development

* Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D CAD) and technical drawing creation

* Experience with GD&T and DFMA principles

* Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication, and assembly

* Experience working with BOMs and engineering documentation systems (e.g. SAP)

Qualifications

* Degree, HND, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering

* 3–5 years’ experience in a similar engineering role
