Apply NowWe’re recruiting a Mechanical Engineering Manager for a London Borough Council to lead a team of six delivering mechanical maintenance, compliance and projects across a portfolio of 250 corporate and leisure buildings.
Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, you’ll be the council’s mechanical engineering lead within Technical Services, taking responsibility for the team’s performance, technical standards and delivery.
The estate ranges from modern, highly sustainable buildings to properties dating back to the early 20th century. You’ll need the technical knowledge to troubleshoot complex issues across this varied portfolio and the management experience to keep maintenance and project programmes on track.
The role will involve:

Leading a team of six delivering statutory compliance, planned preventative maintenance and day-to-day repairs.
*
Acting as the responsible person for Legionella management.
*
Overseeing an annual programme of around 40–60 small works projects, with a combined value of £3–4 million.
*
Providing expert mechanical engineering advice and resolving technical issues across corporate and leisure buildings.
*
Managing contracts and contractors, ensuring works meet agreed standards, budgets and timescales.
*
Setting priorities and allocating resources across maintenance, compliance and project delivery.
You’ll need:
*
A degree or higher qualification in a relevant mechanical engineering subject.
*
Extensive experience in construction and building services, covering the full range of mechanical services.
*
Experience leading engineering teams across corporate and commercial property portfolios.
*
Strong knowledge of mechanical compliance and Legionella management.
*
A track record of managing maintenance services alongside a substantial programme of small works projects.
*
Experience managing contracts, challenging contractor performance and resolving complex technical problems.
This would suit an experienced mechanical engineering manager who combines strong technical judgement with the ability to lead a busy team across a varied estate.
