About the business

Westmoore Recruitment is supporting an established engineering business specialising in industrial gearboxes, geared motors and power transmission solutions.

Working with equipment manufacturers, distributors and end users, the business provides assembly, servicing and repair support to customers across a range of industrial applications.

The opportunity

Are you a practical Mechanical Fitter or Service Technician who enjoys diagnosing faults, rebuilding equipment and taking pride in the quality of your work?

This is a varied, hands-on role involving the assembly, testing, servicing and repair of industrial gearboxes and geared motors, both in the workshop and at customer sites.

You’ll follow jobs through from initial inspection to final testing and despatch, working closely with engineering, operations and sales colleagues to deliver reliable equipment and responsive customer service.

Key responsibilities

* Inspect, clean, assemble, service and repair industrial gearboxes and geared motors.

* Diagnose mechanical faults, identify the work required and resolve technical problems.

* Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials and technical instructions.

* Carry out final testing and accurately record results, highlighting any issues.

* Organise work, parts and equipment to meet quality standards and delivery deadlines.

* Complete job sheets, build records and associated documentation accurately.

* Support customers with technical queries and communicate professionally during site visits.

* Liaise with colleagues and suppliers to source parts, progress repairs and flag shortages.

* Support the assessment of warranty claims and returned equipment.

* Use hand tools, pneumatic tools and lifting equipment safely, maintaining a tidy and organised workshop.

* Follow company quality procedures and contribute to continuous improvement.

About you

You’ll bring a strong mechanical engineering background, a methodical approach to fault-finding and the ability to produce work to a consistently high standard.

We’re looking for:

* Experience in mechanical fitting, equipment assembly, servicing or repair within an industrial environment.

* Knowledge of industrial gearboxes, geared motors or related power transmission equipment.

* A relevant engineering qualification, including an ONC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

* Confident use of hand tools and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.

* Strong troubleshooting skills and a basic understanding of electrical systems.

* An understanding of safe lifting, equipment handling and workshop safety.

* Good computer skills and an organised approach to recording technical information.

* The ability to work independently, contribute to a team and communicate clearly with customers.

An apprenticeship, relevant NVQ Level 3, HNC or experience working to ISO 9000 quality procedures would be advantageous.

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 8.30am–5pm; Friday, 8.30am–3.30pm, with a one-hour lunch break each day. Overtime as required

Why apply

* £32,000–£36,000 annual salary, depending on experience.

* Earlier finish on Fridays.

* A varied role combining workshop engineering with customer-site work.

* The opportunity to use your mechanical skills across assembly, fault-finding, servicing and repair.

* Involvement throughout the repair process, with the satisfaction of seeing equipment tested and ready to return to service.
