Job Title: Mechanical / Multiskilled Engineer (Chemical Manufacturing) Location: Tameside, Greater Manchester Salary: £40,000+ Hours: Monday to Friday + Overtime available Role Overview We are seeking a skilled Mechanical / Multiskilled Engineer to join our maintenance team at our site in Tameside within a fast-paced chemical manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of production equipment, with a strong focus on mixing, batching, and pumping systems. Key Responsibilities * Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on a wide range of process and plant equipment * Diagnose and repair mechanical faults across mixing, batching, and pumping systems * Maintain and troubleshoot: * Industrial mixers and agitators * Batch processing systems * Pumps (gear, diaphragm, centrifugal, etc.) * Valves, pipework, and associated process equipment * Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime * Work closely with production teams to minimise disruption and optimise plant performance * Ensure all maintenance activities comply with site safety standards and relevant regulations (e.g., COSHH, ATEX where applicable) * Assist with installation, commissioning, and upgrades of new equipment * Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation * Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions Skills & Experience Required * Proven experience working in a chemical or process manufacturing environment (adhesives, coatings, resins, or similar preferred) * Strong hands-on experience with: * Mixing and blending equipment * Batch processing systems * Industrial pumping systems and fluid handling * Mechanical fault finding and repair expertise * Basic electrical fault-finding skills (desirable for multiskilled engineers) * Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning * Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in a hazardous environment Qualifications * HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience) – essential * Apprenticeship in Engineering (preferred) * Relevant certifications in health & safety or hazardous area working (advantageous) Personal Attributes * Strong problem-solving and analytical skills * Proactive and self-motivated approach * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Good communication skills across engineering and production teams * Flexible and adaptable to changing production demands
