Ocean Freight Coordinator

About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Ocean Freight Coordinator to join their growing freight forwarding operation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid background in ocean freight who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating ocean freight shipments, preparing competitive freight quotations, liaising with carriers and overseas agents, and ensuring shipments move efficiently from booking through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately prepare and maintain ocean freight rate quotations, ensuring compliance with carrier contracts and global tariff regulations.
Coordinate with carriers, overseas agents, and internal departments to secure the most suitable shipping schedules and competitive freight rates.
Monitor and track shipments, proactively resolving delays or discrepancies before they impact customers.
Support the sales team by providing timely and competitive rate proposals for spot quotes and tender opportunities.
Ensure all documentation, including bills of lading, invoices, and customs paperwork, is accurate, complete, and compliant.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international trade regulations, customs requirements, and market rate trends.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, shipping lines, overseas agents, and suppliers.
Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.
Deliver a high level of customer service by providing regular shipment updates and responding promptly to customer enquiries.
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in an Ocean Freight Coordinator, Ocean Import, Ocean Export, or Freight Forwarding role.
UK based experience
Strong understanding of ocean freight operations and shipping documentation.
Knowledge of carrier contracts, freight rates, and tariff structures.
Understanding of customs procedures and international trade regulations.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and freight forwarding software.
