Tradewind Recruitment is working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Rochdale to recruit an Outdoor Education Teacher. Outdoor learning is at the heart of the curriculum, helping pupils with SEMH and SEND develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and the skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
This is a full-time role with the opportunity to become permanent for the right person.
The Role
As the Outdoor Education Teacher, you'll plan and deliver engaging outdoor learning experiences that inspire and challenge young people aged 11-16.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering Outdoor Education alongside PSHE and personal development
Leading adventurous activities including canoeing, orienteering, bushcraft, problem-solving and team-building
Creating opportunities for pupils to develop resilience, confidence and independence through outdoor learning
Organising educational visits, enrichment activities and residential opportunities where appropriate
Building links with outdoor education providers, activity centres and community organisations
Supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, anxiety and additional needs using positive, trauma-informed approaches
Working closely with families, colleagues and external agencies to support pupil progressAbout the Provision
This specialist Alternative Provision supports pupils aged 11-16 who have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
Outdoor education is not an occasional enrichment activity-it is a central part of the curriculum. The school believes that learning beyond the classroom helps pupils develop self-esteem, emotional regulation, communication skills and positive relationships, enabling them to re-engage with education.
Classes are small, support is personalised, and staff work collaboratively to help every young person achieve success.

Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS)
Have experience delivering Outdoor Education or adventure-based learning
Have experience working with pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs
Be confident leading off-site visits and outdoor activities
Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
Ideally have experience of Forest School, Duke of Edinburgh, bushcraft, expedition work or outdoor pursuits
