🔧 Role Overview
As a Plant Fitter, you’ll play a key role in maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a wide range of heavy plant and machinery. You’ll ensure all equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to support operations across multiple sites. This role suits someone who thrives in a hands‑on environment, enjoys problem‑solving, and takes pride in high‑quality workmanship.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
* Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy plant equipment (e.g., excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers).
* Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults efficiently and accurately.
* Conduct pre‑hire inspections and ensure all machinery meets safety and compliance standards.
* Respond to breakdowns on-site and provide timely, effective repairs to minimise downtime.
* Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
* Work collaboratively with the Plant Manager and site teams to prioritise workloads.
* Ensure all work is completed in line with company safety procedures and industry regulations.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Plant & Fleet department.
🧰 Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Proven experience as a Plant Fitter, Plant Mechanic, or similar role.
* Strong knowledge of heavy plant machinery and associated systems.
* Ability to read technical manuals and interpret diagnostic information.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
* Commitment to safe working practices.
Desirable:
* NVQ Level 2/3 in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
* Experience working within construction, plant or civil engineering environments
