Job Title: PLC Programmer
Location: Hailsham, East Sussex
Travel: International travel required
Salary; £40/45k
Overview We are seeking a skilled PLC Programmer to support the design, development, and commissioning of control systems for low-volume, high-value capital equipment. This role involves close collaboration with engineering and production teams, as well as hands-on work at customer sites worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, program, and test PLC control systems for bespoke capital equipment
* Design and implement HMI/SCADA interfaces where required
* Support electrical and controls design, including I/O mapping and documentation
* Commission systems in-house and at customer sites, including overseas installations
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build, test, and field operation
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to deliver integrated solutions
* Produce and maintain technical documentation (functional specifications, test procedures, user manuals)
* Provide technical support and training to customers and internal teams
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience programming PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent)
* Strong understanding of industrial automation, control systems, and electrical schematics
* Experience working with low-volume or custom-built machinery preferred
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
* Familiarity with fieldbus networks (e.g., Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus)
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Willingness and ability to travel internationally
Desirable Skills
* Experience with motion control, robotics, or vision systems
* Knowledge of safety PLCs and functional safety standards
* HMI/SCADA development experience
* Experience with commissioning complex capital equipment

* Strong communication skills, particularly in customer-facing situations
* Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
