Plumbing Buyer

Your new company Hays are recruiting on behalf of a respected and growing plumbing contractor based in Birmingham. The business delivers a wide range of residential and commercial projects and is known for its reliable service, quality workmanship, and strong supply‑chain relationships. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Plumbing Buyer to strengthen their commercial team. Your new role As the Plumbing Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing all plumbing materials, fittings, and equipment required across multiple active projects. Working closely with Project Managers and Site Teams, you will ensure materials are ordered competitively, arrive on time, and meet quality standards.Your key responsibilities will include: Building and managing relationships with suppliers and merchants Negotiating pricing and securing cost‑effective deals Raising purchase orders and managing delivery schedules Forecasting material requirements and preventing shortages Maintaining accurate pricing logs, procurement records, and supplier performance data Identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies Providing technical insight on plumbing materials when needed What you'll need to succeed The company is open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. You will be successful if you have: A strong understanding of plumbing materials and systems Experience from a plumbing merchant/trade counter, as a plumber looking to move off the tools, or from a construction/M&E supply background with transferable skills Confident negotiation and communication abilities Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects Good IT skills and experience with ordering or procurement systems A commercially minded approach with strong attention to detail What you'll get in return You will receive a competitive salary between £30,000 - £36,000, depending on experience.
