Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a highly rewarding 1:1 role where you can make a genuine difference every day?

Do you have the patience, empathy, and consistency needed to support a child with Autism in a structured and nurturing environment?

Academics is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder, starting ASAP.

About the Role

This is a full-time, long-term position where you will work closely with one pupil in Year 5, supporting both their learning and emotional development throughout the school day.

Behavioural Needs: Requires encouragement to follow instructions and understand boundaries

Support Network: Has primarily worked with one Teaching Assistant and one class teacher, with occasional additional staff at lunchtime

Additional Needs: None beyond ASD diagnosis

Interests: Enjoys cartoons such as Phineas and Ferb and has a strong attachment to a school teddy named "Lucy," which provides comfort and consistency

Your Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day

Use clear communication strategies and visual supports to aid understanding

Help the pupil stay engaged with learning tasks tailored to their ability level

Support emotional regulation and reinforce positive behaviour

Build a trusting, supportive relationship to help the pupil feel safe and understood

Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies and routines
