Principal Accountant

An established and purpose-driven organisation is seeking an experienced Principal Accountant to lead its financial accounting function and manage a high-performing team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for delivering robust financial control, statutory reporting, and technical accounting excellence. You will take ownership of the financial accounting team, ensuring the accurate and timely production of month-end reporting, statutory accounts, and regulatory returns, while continuously strengthening processes and controls. This role combines technical expertise, team leadership, and strategic input ideal for someone who enjoys both detail and impact. Key tasks: - Lead and develop the Financial Accounting team - Plan and coordinate the month-end close process - Oversee preparation and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliation packs - Deliver year-end reporting and statutory accounts in line with regulatory requirements - Manage grant claims, statistical returns, and external reporting - Liaise with auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders - Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements (VAT, Corporation Tax) - Support budget setting and business planning processes - Maintain and enhance financial systems and internal controls - Undertake robust financial modelling to support service development Please get in touch if this sounds of interest
