Principal Planning Officer
Location: Portsmouth (Hybrid – Tuesdays in office)
Rate: £60 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: Interim
An excellent interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Planning Policy Officer to play a key role in shaping the future development of a major UK city.
You will take a leading role in the Local Plan examination process, contributing to the delivery of a long-term development strategy and representing the authority at hearings.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on key aspects of Local Plan preparation, review, and examination
Represent the authority at examination hearings and planning forums
Produce evidence, written representations, and policy documentation
Undertake research and analysis to inform planning policy
Respond to planning legislation, consultations, and policy changes
Work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders
Support and mentor junior planning staffAbout You
You will be an experienced planning professional with strong policy expertise and the ability to operate at a senior level.
Essential:
Degree in Town Planning or equivalent
MRTPI qualified
Strong experience in planning policy
Local Plan examination experience
Excellent analytical and communication skillsExperience in at least two of the following:
Biodiversity and Green Infrastructure
Habitat Regulations Assessment
Climate Change
Transport and Air Quality
Infrastructure Delivery Planning
