Project Engineer – National Grid Substation
Location: Swansea Start Date: 5th May 2026 (with pre-site planning in April) Contract: 1 Month (Potential extension to 6–7 weeks) Rate: £70 per hour (Umbrella) – Inside IR35 Hours: 50 hours per week (7:30am – 5:30pm, Monday–Friday) Multi Trades Recruitment are working on behalf of a National Grid subcontractor who are looking to recruit an experienced Project Engineer for work at Swansea North (SCS). This role is focused on Protection & Control (P&C) within National Grid substations, managing internal panel modifications and supporting the installation of protection equipment. Role & Responsibilities * Managing wiremen carrying out internal panel modifications * Reading and interpreting protection schemes and wiring diagrams * Creating RAMS for installation of protection equipment * Acting as a Competent Person on National Grid sites * Supporting project planning and attending pre-site safety meetings * Ensuring work is carried out safely and in line with National Grid procedures Please note: The scope of this project is limited to internal panel modifications. There is no overhead line work or primary NSI2 works involved. Requirements * National Grid Person (minimum requirement) * Ideally National Grid Competent Person * Experience working on National Grid substations * Strong understanding of Protection & Control (P&C) systems * Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and protection schemes * Experience creating RAMS Desirable * SMSTS or SSSTS (safety qualification preferred) Note: * Formal electrician qualifications not required * CSCS card not required Project Details * Minimum 1-month contract, with potential extension up to 6–7 weeks * Site work scheduled during outages in May and June * Candidate required to start in April for planning and safety meetings * Monday–Friday only – no weekend work currently planned
