Proposals Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for the Mechanical or Electrical Engineering content of estimates, proposals and tenders
in accordance with procedures to the agreed timetable.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
• To determine, with input from others as necessary, optimum MEICA design solutions for proposal
work.
• Working with the Commercial Manager, to ensure the contractual and commercial viability of
tenders submitted.
• Provision of Mechanical/Electrical estimates for tenders in conjunction with estimators and project
engineers as necessary.
• Production of Mechanical/Electrical tender documents and completion of clients’ documentation
for submittal.
• Meeting tender deadlines.
• Provide sales support as required.
• Participate in presentations and technical/commercial meetings with potential/actual clients and
customers as required.
• Identify key inputs required by others in order to produce technically and commercially viable
tenders.
• Co-ordinating external and internal inputs for tender preparation.
• Work with relevant engineering discipline leads to establish labour estimates for proposals
(utilising EMEW)
• Maintenance of tender records and files including post tender.
• Preparation of project hand-over documentation.
• Upkeep of costs, estimating and pricing information.
• To provide a reference point for other staff seconded to Business Development in order to
maintain consistency and adherence to proposals working procedures and practices.
• To report on the effectiveness and efficiency of proposals work at regular intervals.
• Development of tendering and estimating standards as required.
• To comply with all Health and Safety responsibilities commensurate with the role, as outlined in
the Health and Safety policy.
• Any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned from time to time
Requirements
Essential:
• HNC/D in relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent level qualification)
• Demonstrable experience commensurate to the level of the role within the water/wastewater
industry or other relevant sector
• IT literate with an ability to use a wide range of IT packages including Microsoft Office
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and be self-directed as
appropriate
• Able to work under pressure and within short term deadlines
• Commercially astute
• Ability to communicate effectively and build good working relationships with clients, (JV) partners
and suppliers.
Desirable:
• BSc or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
• Membership of a relevant professional body (eg. IMechE, IET, CIWEM)
