Senior Quantity Surveyor | Inverurie (Aberdeenshire) | Power & Renewables | NEC

Looking for a Senior QS role where you’re involved in major UK infrastructure projects — not just reporting on them?

This opportunity sits within Kirby Group Engineering’s power division, supporting the delivery of high-voltage and substation projects for SSE across Scotland.

Kirby operate as the principal delivery partner — effectively managing projects end-to-end — working closely with design teams such as Arcadis and delivering complex infrastructure across transmission, utilities, nuclear and wider construction environments.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take full ownership of the commercial function across HV and substation projects, including:

* Managing project costs at every stage — from initial budgets through to final account

* Administering NEC contracts (applications, variations, compensation events, final accounts)

* Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations, and payments

* Supporting cost planning, BOQs, and financial forecasting

* Identifying commercial risks and ensuring they are managed proactively

* Working closely with project managers and planners to align cost with programme

* Managing change, remeasurement, and dayworks across live projects

* Producing accurate monthly applications and commercial reporting

This is a role where you’re expected to understand how the project is built — not just track the numbers.

What you’ll need

* Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within infrastructure, utilities, or construction

* Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3 or NEC4)

* Experience managing costs across live engineering or construction projects

* Ability to manage subcontractor accounts and commercial processes end-to-end

* Confident working closely with delivery teams and stakeholders

Ideally, you’ll also have experience on:

* Substation or high-voltage (HV) projects

* National Grid, SSE, or similar utility frameworks

* Power, transmission, nuclear, or large-scale construction projects

A degree in Quantity Surveying or similar is preferred, but not essential.

The role

* Based in Inverurie (Aberdeenshire)

* Supporting long-term projects for SSE (Scottish & Southern Energy)

* Working on major infrastructure across power and renewables

* Backed by a strong pipeline of secured work

Salary & package

The salary will range from £65,000 – £70,000 initially, depending on experience.

Full package details available on request.
