Research Assistant - FTC
Location: Huntingdon (PE29) Duration: Fixed Term Contract to end of November 2026 Hours: 9am until 5:30pm (Monday to Friday) Salary: £34000 Job Reference: 36401 We are seeking a hands on Research Assistant for a fixed term contract running to the end of November 2026. You will join a cutting edge scientific research environment in a lab based role contributing to the fabrication, testing and characterisation of experimental materials and devices. You'll work closely with scientists across multiple disciplines and play a key part in developing new experimental methods and delivering high quality data. Responsibilities: • Carry out fabrication, formulation, coating and characterisation procedures. • Plan and perform experiments independently or in collaboration with senior scientists. • Accurately record process details, results and observations in internal systems. • Contribute to the development and optimisation of fabrication processes and test protocols. • Maintain a tidy, safe and compliant laboratory environment, including COSHH and risk assessments. • Analyse experimental results and present clear conclusions. • Prepare verbal and written technical reports and contribute to scientific presentations. • Support robust data collection, interpretation and documentation. • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members (e.g., chemists, physicists). • Take part in project meetings and contribute ideas for experimental design and new research approaches. Requirements: • Degree in a physical science or related discipline. • Experience working in a research laboratory (academic or industrial). • Strong understanding of scientific principles and experimental methods. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical ideas. • Confident analysing data and drawing meaningful conclusions. • Ability to manage your time, handle multiple tasks and work both independently and within a team. • High attention to detail, strong organisation skills and a proactive approach. Desirable Experience • Familiarity with scientific data collection software (e.g., LabVIEW, Python). • Experience in cleanrooms or high spec lab environments. • Hands-on experience with device fabrication or semiconductor processing equipment (e.g., coaters, evaporators, metrology tools).
