Science Technician - Kings Heath, Birmingham Start Date: 13th April 2026 Pay Rate: £105 - £115 per day Contract: Long-Term, Full Time (permanent potential) Empowering Learning is delighted to be working in partnership with a secondary school in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician for a January 2026 start. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive science department and play a vital role in delivering high-quality science education. About the Role Working closely with the Senior Lab Technician and the wider technician team, the successful candidate will support the effective delivery of the science curriculum by ensuring practical lessons are well-prepared, safe, and engaging for students. Key Responsibilities Include: Coordinating the use of practical resources and facilities within the Science Department Preparing materials, stock solutions, specimens, and apparatus for demonstrations and practical lessons Setting up, testing, and clearing away experiments and equipment Cleaning and maintaining apparatus, including glassware, ensuring safe use at all times Carrying out risk assessments for technician activities Assisting in practical lessons and demonstrations where required Maintaining laboratory documentation systems, including online requisition systems Inspecting, maintaining, and correctly using safety equipment Reporting equipment faults and arranging repairs where necessary Ensuring safe storage, transport, and disposal of chemical and biological waste Maintaining appropriate stock levels and preparing standard solutions The Successful Candidate Will: Demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for Science Have experience working in a laboratory or educational setting (desirable) Show strong organisational and time-management skills Be able to work effectively as part of a team Have a good understanding of health & safety and laboratory procedures Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people Have a DBS on the update service (or be willing to obtain one) What the School Offers: A supportive and collaborative science department Opportunities for training and professional development A welcoming and inclusive school environment How to Apply If you are a reliable and motivated Science Technician looking for a rewarding long-term opportunity from January 2026, we would love to hear from you.
