SEN Lawyer

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide legal advice and representation in relation to SEN and education law matters, including:
* Managing a caseload of SEN Tribunal matters from instruction through to resolution
* Advising education officers and senior stakeholders on SEN legislation and statutory duties
* Preparing responses, witness statements and legal documentation for Tribunal proceedings
* Conducting advocacy at SEND Tribunal hearings where appropriate, or instructing external counsel
* Advising on Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
* Supporting the Authority on school admission, exclusion and education-related judicial review matters where required
* Providing practical and commercially aware legal advice within statutory timescales
* Assisting with policy development and ensuring legal compliance across education services
About You
Applications are invited from qualified Solicitors, Barristers or Chartered Legal Executives with experience in education and SEN law.
Candidates should demonstrate:
* Experience handling SEN Tribunal matters
* Strong knowledge of education law and SEND legislation
* Excellent drafting and advocacy skills
* The ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
* Strong communication skills and confidence advising non-legal stakeholders
* A proactive and solutions-focused approach
Previous Local Authority experience is advantageous, though candidates from private practice with relevant expertise are encouraged to apply.
