SEN TA
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has strong experience supporting children with autism and understands the importance of routine, consistency, communication and emotional regulation. The school is looking for someone calm, reliable and proactive who can build a strong relationship with the child while helping them access learning and take part fully in school life.
The Role
As the SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to provide tailored 1:1 support throughout the school day. You will help the child stay engaged in lessons, manage transitions, follow routines and develop confidence both academically and socially.
You will need to be patient, resilient and confident in adapting your approach to meet the needs of the child.
Essential Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience supporting children with ASD / autism, ideally within a school setting
* Strong understanding of 1:1 SEN support
* Ability to support a child with communication, interaction and emotional regulation
* A calm, patient and consistent approach
* Confidence using visual supports, routines and clear instructions
* Good behaviour management skills
* Ability to work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
* Strong communication skills with staff, pupils and parents
* A reliable and professional attitude
Desirable Skills
The school would be particularly interested in candidates with experience or knowledge of:
* PECS, visual timetables or now/next boards
* Zones of Regulation or other emotional regulation strategies
* Supporting children with sensory needs
* Speech and language support
* De-escalation strategies
* Working with children who may find transitions or changes to routine difficult
* Supporting learning in KS2 English and Maths
* Previous experience in a mainstream primary school or specialist provision
The School
The school is a supportive and inclusive primary school in Neasden with a strong focus on helping every child feel safe, understood and able to succeed. Staff work closely together to provide consistent support for pupils with additional needs, and the successful candidate will be well supported by the class teacher, SENCO and wider team.
