SEN Teacher
Location: Independent Special School - Cambridge
Reports to: Headteacher / SENCO
Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality, personalised, and engaging cross-curricular teaching to pupils with Special Educational Needs, primarily autism, often alongside additional needs such as ADHD and dyslexia. The role focuses on supporting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development through tailored teaching approaches that promote independence and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Plan and deliver differentiated, cross-curricular lessons that meet individual learning needs
Adapt teaching strategies to support pupils with autism and co-occurring conditions (e.g. ADHD, dyslexia)
Use structured, visual, and multi-sensory approaches to maximise engagement and understanding
Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress in line with EHCP outcomes
Create a safe, predictable, and inclusive classroom environment
Student Support & Development
Support pupils’ emotional regulation and positive behaviour using appropriate strategies
Develop communication, social interaction, and life skills alongside academic learning
Implement and review individual learning plans and behaviour support plans
Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem in all learners
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
* Experience working with pupils with SEN, particularly autism
* Strong understanding of differentiated and inclusive teaching strategies
* Ability to manage behaviour positively and effectively
* Experience delivering cross-curricular teaching
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Experience in an SEN or specialist school setting
* Knowledge of EHCP processes
* Relevant training (e.g. autism, behaviour management, mental health)
