Job Role: SEN Teacher Location: Portsmouth Pay: £168.80 – £270.98 per day (Dependent on Experience) Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm Contract Type: Full Time Start Date: Immediate Duration: Until July 2026 (Temporary contract) Are you a passionate and resilient educator looking to make a meaningful impact in a specialist setting? Supply Desk are seeking a committed SEN Teacher to join a small, supportive provision in Portsmouth, working with students who have significant SEMH needs. About the Provision This specialist provision is part of a wider Special School and Alternative Provisionsetting that supports children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH)needs, as well as those unable to access mainstream education. The school provides: A nurturing, highly supportive environment where students with SEMH can thrive emotionally and academically. Small class sizes (typically 1–5 students) to allow personalised support and relationship‑based teaching. A curriculum designed to promote emotional intelligence, resilience, and meaningful qualifications, helping learners re-engage with education and prepare for Post‑16 pathways. Students are aged 11–16, many with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), requiring a highly structured, emotionally informed approach to learning. The Role We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to deliver English and Maths to small groups of 1–5 students with SEMH needs. You will be supported by an experienced Teaching Assistant in every lesson. Your responsibilities will include: Planning and delivering adaptive English and Maths lessons Building strong, trusting relationships with highly vulnerable learners Supporting emotional regulation, resilience and engagement Creating a safe, structured and therapeutic learning environment Working collaboratively with pastoral and SEN teams to meet students' individual needs What We’re Looking For Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant SEN teaching experience Experience working with SEMH students (desirable but not essential) Ability to remain calm, consistent and nurturing Strong behaviour regulation and de-escalation skills Excellent communication and a restorative, trauma-informed approach Benefits of Working with Supply Desk Competitive rates of pay A dedicated consultant offering ongoing support Access to training and CPD, including SEMH and behaviour support Long-term and permanent opportunities available £100 referral bonus for recommending a friend Interested?
