A specialist SEN school in SM6 is seeking a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). This is a full-time role with an immediate start, ideal for someone with a strong care background and experience supporting complex needs.
The Role
• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD
• Support students with complex medical, physical, and sensory needs
• Assist with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and hygiene
• Use communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, and sensory approaches
• Support engagement through sensory-based learning and activities
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals
• Ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment
Requirements
• Previous experience working with PMLD or complex needs
• Comfortable providing personal care
• Experience with manual handling (or willingness to train)
• Must hold a Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service
• Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
• Full-time availability (Monday–Friday)
Desirable
• Experience with PEG feeding, hoisting, or medical needs
• Training in manual handling, Team Teach, or similar
• Background in care, support work, or specialist SEN settings
