SEND Teaching Assistant – SEMH / ASDHarrow, North West London

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in the Harrow area supporting students in Years 7–11 with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a resilient and compassionate individual who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them achieve both academically and emotionally.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students both in and outside of the classroom. You will play a key role in helping pupils manage behaviour, regulate emotions, and engage positively with learning.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and ASD needs

* Support pupils across Years 7–11

* Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies

* Build positive and trusting relationships with students

* Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence

* Support the class teacher with differentiated learning activities

* Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

Requirements

* Previous experience working with SEMH and/or ASD students essential

* Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils preferred

* Strong behaviour management skills

* Calm, patient, and resilient approach

* Excellent communication and teamwork skills

* Team Teach or de-escalation training desirable but not essential
