Senior Chassis Design Engineer

Location: 12 Months

Duration: Newark, California

The Design Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, developing, and supporting mechanical products, equipment, and systems. This role focuses on translating technical requirements into robust, manufacturable designs while considering functionality, performance, cost, and maintainability. The successful candidate will be comfortable producing and interpreting engineering drawings and collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Research, design, develop, and validate mechanical products, components, and systems within Chassis
Analyse customer design proposals, specifications, and technical documentation to assess technical feasibility, cost, and project timelines
Create and review engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications in accordance with applicable standards
Support the development of products from concept through production, including design reviews and testing activities
Collaborate with drafters, manufacturing teams, and other engineers to ensure designs are fit for purpose and manufacturable
Assist with troubleshooting, design improvements, and change implementation
Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, safety requirements, and quality processes

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a structured engineering approach
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively as a team player while managing individual responsibilities
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Ability to produce engineering drawings, sketches, and calculations
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and CAD models
Hands‑on experience with CAD software and other engineering tools
Adaptable mindset with a willingness to learn and develop new skills

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related engineering discipline)
5-7 years' experience in a mechanical or design engineering role (Chassis)
Experience working in a product development or manufacturing environment is preferred
