About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a growing engineering consultancy. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects within the utilities sector.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will develop and oversee civil engineering solutions, support project delivery, provide technical guidance to junior engineers, and contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality engineering outcomes for a range of clients.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of engineering design solutions, influence technical decision-making, and support the continued growth of our civil engineering capability.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Civil Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical delivery and coordination of civil engineering activities across a diverse portfolio of projects. Responsibilities include:
* Leading the development and review of civil engineering designs, applying sound engineering judgement to deliver practical, sustainable and cost-effective solutions.
* Managing engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
* Supporting successful project delivery by coordinating design activities, managing priorities and meeting programme commitments.
* Reviewing and checking engineering outputs to ensure quality, consistency and compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
* Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, project managers and technical specialists to develop integrated engineering solutions.
* Liaising with clients, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders to understand project requirements, resolve technical challenges and support successful delivery.
* Undertaking site visits, surveys, inspections and technical reviews to inform design development and support project implementation.
* Mentoring and supporting graduate and junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and encouraging professional development.
* Maintaining technical expertise by keeping up to date with industry developments, emerging technologies and changes to legislation and standards.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical capability, leadership skills and a collaborative approach to engineering delivery.
Essential
* Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* Demonstrable experience delivering civil engineering designs within infrastructure, utilities or related engineering sectors.
* Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, engineering calculations, technical specifications and design standards.
* Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage or equivalent.
* Experience coordinating design activities within multidisciplinary project teams.
* Knowledge of relevant engineering legislation, regulations and industry standards.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
* Commercial awareness with an understanding of consultancy project delivery
