Senior Ecologist - Newcastle

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Ecologist to join a well-established and expanding environmental consultancy in Newcastle. This role is perfectly suited to a motivated ecologist looking to progress their career within a collaborative, supportive, and environmentally focused organisation.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in delivering a wide variety of ecological projects throughout the UK, supporting residential, commercial, infrastructure, and conservation developments. Working alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to guide projects from initial stages through to completion, while mentoring junior ecologists and contributing to the ongoing growth of the ecology team.

As a Senior Ecologist, your responsibilities will include:

Leading and managing ecological surveys, assessments, and technical reporting

Carrying out protected species surveys and habitat assessments

Managing projects, budgets, and client relationships

Supporting and mentoring junior members of the ecology team

Assisting with business development and tender submissions

Liaising with planners, developers, and key stakeholders

Ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, on time, and to a high technical standard

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field

Proven consultancy experience within the ecology sector

Strong report writing and project management capabilities

Protected species survey licences (desirable)

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Membership of CIEEM (preferred)

A full UK driving licence
