Senior Engineer – Heat Networks & Metering Systems ⚡ Hiring urgently – Immediate interviews available. 📍 Location: Greater Manchester office or home-based (Southeast preferred) 🧭 Travel: Regular travel to London client sites but clients are also national 💼 Type: Full-time | Permanent 💰 Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum Benefits £4,800 car allowance or company van (tax free) All travel expenses fully covered- (overnight stays and fuel) Oyster Card provided for engineers based primarily in London, if this is a preference over a car/car allowance Opportunity to work on major heat network infrastructure projects Join a growing and highly specialised engineering team The Opportunity My client are looking for a Senior Engineer to join a specialist team delivering communal energy and heat network metering solutions across the UK. This role will see you working closely with clients to install, commission, maintain and optimise building-wide metering systems used for district heating, communal energy and utilities monitoring. You will play a key role in ensuring systems provide accurate remote data for billing and system performance monitoring. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a mix of hands-on technical work, client engagement and project oversight within the fast-growing heat networks sector. Key Responsibilities Maintain and replace communal energy systems, including credit/prepay meters, sub-meters, data loggers and communications infrastructure. Support installation, testing and commissioning of new metering systems. Ensure systems enable remote meter reading and accurate energy billing. Respond to system faults and troubleshoot issues to minimise downtime. Provide technical guidance to clients on system performance and development. Review and approve commissioning protocols and engineering change controls. Maintain asset inventory records across multiple client sites. Coordinate on-site vendors and subcontracted engineers. Support both brownfield upgrades and greenfield installations of building-wide metering systems. Technologies & Systems You will work with a range of modern metering and communications technologies, including: Heat meters and ultrasonic meters Data loggers and remote monitoring systems MBUS, ModBus and LoRaWAN communications protocols Building Management Systems (BMS) Wired and wireless metering infrastructure Industry solutions often include technologies from companies such as Elvaco and Kamstrup. About You I am looking for an experienced engineer with strong technical knowledge and the ability to work directly with clients. Essential experience: Engineering background in M&E, instrumentation or building services Experience with metering systems, data loggers and BMS controls Knowledge of heat networks or communal energy systems Familiarity with MBUS, ModBus or LoRaWAN Strong IT, numeracy and data management skills Client-facing experience Full UK driving licence Industry Context You will be working within the rapidly growing UK heat network sector, collaborating with organisations similar to Switch2, Evinox Energy and Vital Energi. Working Style This role offers a high level of autonomy and flexibility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own diary, planning site visits, coordinating client meetings and scheduling engineering activities to ensure projects and service work are delivered efficiently. You will be trusted to organise your workload across multiple client sites, prioritising maintenance, fault response and project commitments, while maintaining strong communication with clients and internal teams.
