Senior Operations Technician

Location: Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 + Benefits
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent | Shift-Based (24/7 Operation)

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Senior Operations Technician to join a Power Generation Facility.

This is a senior hands-on role responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, and environmental compliance.

You will play a key role in plant operations, fault finding and mentoring junior team members within a 24/7 process environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the safe and efficient operation of the Power Generation Facility.

* Operate and monitor plant systems using DCS/SCADA

* Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and Environmental Permit

* Respond to plant faults, alarms, and carry out first-line fault diagnosis

* Assist with start-up, shutdown, and emergency operations

* Monitor and adjust plant performance to optimise efficiency and output

* Apply and support Safe Systems of Work (permits, RAMS, risk assessments)

* Assist with plant isolation for maintenance activities

* Contribute to incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis

* Participate in daily planning and coordination of operations and maintenance

* Provide guidance and support to junior operators/technicians

* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and operational discipline

* Contribute to continuous improvement and plant optimisation initiatives

Skills & Experience

* Recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship

* Experience in an EfW, Biomass, Power Generation, or heavy process environment

* Working knowledge of DCS / SCADA systems

* Understanding of boilers, steam systems, and combustion processes

* Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work / permit systems

* Basic understanding of electrical systems (LV/HV) (advantageous)

* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

* Good IT skills (Word, Excel) for reporting

* Ability to work effectively within a shift team
