Senior Project Engineer – Rotary Piling

Location: Central London

Rate: £400–£500 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: Minimum 6 months

Start Date: Immediate

Carmichael UK are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join a major infrastructure project in Central London. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineering professional with specialist expertise in rotary piling and complex ground conditions to play a key role on a high-profile civils scheme.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and manage rotary bored piling operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.

Manage support fluid (polymer) systems, including quality control procedures and compliance with project-specific quality plans.

Monitor and inspect piling and diaphragm wall activities throughout the construction process.

Carry out or oversee pile shaft and diaphragm wall panel inspections prior to concreting using technologies such as Sonic Caliper and Koden systems.

Review and verify complex reinforcement cage installations, including large diameter reinforcement bars (up to 50mm) and mechanical coupler systems.

Ensure all quality assurance and compliance requirements are met and accurately documented.

Work closely with site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to maintain programme objectives and technical standards.

Requirements

Strong experience with rotary bored piling techniques.

Proven knowledge of diaphragm wall construction and inspection processes.

Experience managing polymer support fluids in challenging ground conditions.

Understanding of complex geotechnical environments, including:

High groundwater tables

Artesian water conditions

Maritime or similarly challenging environments

Experience using Sonic Caliper and/or Koden inspection systems.

Ability to inspect and verify complex reinforcement cages, including 50mm bar systems and couplers.

Excellent quality control and compliance management experience.

Desirable

Previous experience working on HS2 or other major UK infrastructure projects.

Strong understanding of quality plans, inspection test plans (ITPs) and quality assurance procedures within large-scale civil engineering environments.
