Senior Project Manager (Mechanical / M&E) – Major Infrastructure Project

Location: Bridgwater (Site-based, minimum 3 days/week)
Rate: £450 – £580 per day (Inside IR35)
Duration: 12+ Month Contract | ASAP Start

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting a Senior Project Manager to take a leading role on a high-profile, large-scale infrastructure project in Bridgwater, Somerset. This is a critical position overseeing a major mechanical installation package valued at approximately £750m, moving into the commissioning phase.

This role requires a hands-on, delivery-focused leader who can step into a complex environment, drive progress, and manage a politically sensitive contract with significant commercial and stakeholder challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead the full lifecycle delivery of a major mechanical/M&E contract package

* Drive performance across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning

* Manage programme delivery to safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets

* Oversee contract administration, including change, risk, and commercial discussions

* Lead and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team (approx. 5 direct + matrix team)

* Maintain and manage detailed schedules (L3/L4) aligned with overall programme

* Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) principles

* Work closely with suppliers and stakeholders to resolve issues and improve performance

* Ensure compliance with contractual frameworks (NEC/FIDIC)

* Drive a proactive, “roll your sleeves up” approach to delivery

What We’re Looking For:

* Proven experience as a Senior Project Manager on large, complex construction or infrastructure projects

* Strong background in Mechanical Installation (essential)

* Experience in M&E delivery, ideally with turbine systems (nuclear or gas preferred)

* Demonstrated success managing high-value contracts (£100m+)

* Strong commercial acumen with experience handling change and contractor performance issues

* Experience working within regulated environments (e.g. energy, infrastructure, heavy industry)

* Working knowledge of NEC and/or FIDIC contracts

* Confident stakeholder manager with excellent communication skills

* Ability to lead across multiple disciplines and interfaces
